Maa Parvati is said to have assumed the form of Goddess Katyayani in order to defeat Mahishasura the demon. This Goddess Parvati form is considered to be the most brutal and is known as the Warrior Goddess. Maa Katyayani is believed to govern Planet Brihaspati.
